General Practice Data Extraction for Planning and Research (GPDfPR)

From the 1st September 2021 patient data held by your GP Practice will be transferred centrally to NHS Digital. This data will be accessible in an anonymised form for Research and planning purposes.

Patients have the option to opt out of this data transfer before September.

This NHS website clarifies that there are two types of opt-out:

Type 1 – If you submit a type 1 opt out to your GP practice then NHS digital will not be able to collect your data from the GP practice. You need to complete a paper based form (available at the front desk of either surgery) or available online via NHS Digital.

National Data opt-out – If you choose to submit a national data opt out request online then NHS digital will collect your data but will not share it with other organisations unless there is an exemption to this. You can opt out by using the NHS website (link below) or on the NHS App.
https://your-data-matters.service.nhs.uk/

Please be aware that your GP practice cannot action the National Data Opt Out on your behalf.

Opting out will not affect individual care nor will it hinder the sharing of your medical records as required for your healthcare needs.
