Out of hours

If you or your family need urgent medical care when the surgery is closed, call 111 if you feel your call is urgent but does not require an ambulance or a visit to A & E.

If you call the surgery number out-of-hours, you will be redirected to a message telling you to call 111.

This service is available when your GP practice is closed.

The Urgent Treatment Centre

The Urgent Treatment Centre provides assessments and treatment if you need help with a health problem that is urgent, but not life-threatening.

The UTC is not appropriate for dental-related problems (such as toothaches or abscesses), please contact your own dentist, call NHS 111 or visit 111online.

This is a walk-in service and is open 365 days a year. Currently they operating a reduced service and are open between 7am and 7pm. No appointment is needed.

You can call 0115 883 8500 for directions or current waiting times. The centre provides face-to-face and healthcare advice and cannot offer advice over the telephone.

The centre offers assessment and treatment for health conditions such as:

  • Minor burns or scalds
  • Minor head injury with no loss of consciousness
  • Skin infections or animal bites
  • Suspected broken bones, sprains and strains (X-ray service available)
  • Eye infections or minor eye injuries

The centre is not appropriate for:

  • Non-urgent treatment that could be treated by your GP
  • Routine services such as blood tests or wound dressing/suture removal

The Urgent Treatment Centre is located next to the BBC on a business park close to the city centre and railway station.
