Carers Week Special: Prioritising the Health of Our Unpaid Carers

Posted Tue 10/06/2025

June 9th - June 15th is Carers Week and we want to say thank you to all the unpaid carers in our community. Whether you’re caring for a family member, friend, or neighbour, your dedication often goes unnoticed—but it never goes unappreciated.

As part of our Carers Week activities, we’re inviting all eligible unpaid carers aged 40 to 74 to book their free NHS Health Check at our practice.

What is an NHS Health Check?

It’s a quick and straightforward way to assess your risk of developing common health conditions such as:

•    Heart disease
•    Type 2 diabetes
•    Kidney disease
•    Stroke

The check includes measurements like blood pressure, cholesterol, and BMI, along with personalised health advice.

Why Unpaid Carers?

Carers often put their own health last. But looking after yourself is just as important as looking after others. These health checks are designed to catch any early warning signs, giving you peace of mind and support to stay healthy while you care for others.

Appointments are available throughout Carers Week and beyond. To book your free NHS Health Check, please contact reception on 0115 9691166

Let’s take a moment this Carers Week to care for you.

What is Carers Week?

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
